Biography

Edward S. Mitchell grew up in Williamsport, and graduated from Williamsport High School. He graduated from Lafayette College with an AB in 1965. Following college, he served two years active duty overseas as an officer in the United States Army. After separation from active duty service in 1967, he attended Dickinson School of Law from which he received a JD Cum Laude in 1970. While at Dickinson, he served as editor-in-chief of the Dickinson Law Review.

Ed has engaged in an active civil trial practice for more than 50 years. He has litigated in all counties in North Central Pennsylvania and in federal court. He has also handled appeals in state and federal courts to both the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. His practice has been concentrated in defense of professionals in professional liability cases, particularly doctors and lawyers.

Ed has been a certified federal court mediator since 1994. He also has a private mediation arbitration practice.

He is a member of the Pennsylvania, Federal and American Bar Association. He is a part president of the Lycoming Law Association and has been Chairman of the Bench Bar Committee since 2000. He is a part Charmian of the Middle District Lawyer’s Advisory Committee, and a part member of the Middle District Civil Justice Report Act Committee. He was a delegate of the PBA House of Delegates for 25 years. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1997.
